  1. Archival breast specimens were obtained from the Universities of Cincinnati and Wroclaw. All patients belonged to three groups, those who remained cancer free, those whose lesions progressed to breast cancer, and (from the Cincinnati contingent) those who later were diagnosed with cancer in the contralateral breast. Age information was available from the Wroclaw patients. n = total number of samples, std = standard deviation. The follow-up for patients, who developed cancer, was until the time of diagnosis
