Effect of apoA-I and apoE on tumor formation in vivo. MCF7 cells (5 × 10⁶) were orthotopically injected into the mammary gland fat pad of 9-week-old athymic nude mice implanted with slow-release 17β-estradiol pellets (0.36 mg/pellet, 60 days). Tumor growth was followed for the next 60 days by bioluminescence (BLI). BLI was used to follow tumor growth after luciferin injection; mice were imaged once a week. For each imaging session, mice received a single intraperitoneal injection of luciferin at 150 mg/kg and were held conscious for 10 min post-injection (n = 10 for MCF-7-GFP and MCF-7-apoE, n = 12 for MCF-7-apoA-I).
