Effect of calcium on the growth inhibition induced by ibandronate in MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 cells. Cells were treated for 72 hours with 30 μmol/l ibandronate (open circles) in the presence of increasing concentrations of calcium (0.6 to 2.0 mmol/l; filled circles, no ibandronate). Cell culture densities were determined by crystal violet staining assay. Data are expressed as percentages (mean ± standard deviation) of control values, which refer to cultures in presence of 0.6 mmol/l calcium and without ibandronate.
