Phosphorylated Akt expression in tumour and normal tissues of the breast. (a-d) Phosphorylated Akt (P-Akt) staining of invasive ductal carcinomas (IDCs) of the breast ranging from undetectable to intense staining. The scoring system was from 0 to 3 and examples of such are represented in panels a-d, respectively. (e) Normal ducts (dashed arrow) adjacent to the IDC (solid arrow) expressed appreciably less P-Akt. (f) Likewise, P-Akt staining was weak when whole sections of normal breast tissue were stained. (g) However, some cases of normal breast tissues stained more intensely for P-Akt. (h) It was also noted that P-Akt was present in endothelial cells surrounding the tumours.
